Yes, I think the tolerance should be set lower. I find myself posting good quality responses, but because a city like "manuel antonio" is not in the dictionary (as my assumption), should not be flagged. Instant gratification is worth a lot! The heartbreak of needing a moderator review is sometimes frustrating. Possibly the system can flag really bad words, and give less importance to a few misspellings. Though - I see the benefit. Very poorly worded responses probably need more moderator attention.
One other thought... Once a user gets to a certain amount of awarded answers - possibly the system makes spelling less important for that person. After all – these people have been around a while and posted a lot in the past – they should get some benefit of doubt.
