There is a HIPAA law that prevents facilities such as hospitals, medical clinics etc sharing medical information. I highly suggest you research the details on the internet and also contact the hospital and speak with the "HIPAA officer". Each facility is supposed to have a designated person who deals directly with the regulations of that law and confidentiality. I know in some hospitals, if you ask for the patient by name, they would give the room number. However, when directed to not even say he is there (was your aunt the power of attorney?) , I believe the hospital would have to follow the directions of the party who initiated that. Definately call...and my apologies for your loss.
