What can you do about annoying kids on planes?

If there is a kid running around, being loud, kicking your chair what is a tactful way to handle the situation? Do you find the parent, tell the kid to shut up or tell the flight attendant? Or do you ignore it?

If you're a parent what would you want someone to do if your kids is being annoying?

Yes, this is an all to familair one for me. The last time i flew, a man behind me kicked my seat the whole flight. Thank God it was only a 1 hour flight!

I think the best thing to do would be to move seats, if you can, and if there available. Also, letting the flight attendants know so they can fix the problem. Most likley, if someone said something to someones kids the parents could get mad, and that might make the flight more unpleasant. Plus, if there letting there kids behave like that already, they probably wont care to let them keep on no matterwhat you say. The flight attendant would be more apt to fix the problem.

However, if its a baby crying...which is also a common one, well, its a baby...it'd be rude to say something. I always bring my iPod with me though so all i usually have to deal with is kicking.
