Claiming eic

We have had custody of our 5 neices and nephews for 6 months now. But their parents are threatening to claim them on their taxes after reassuring us in the beginning we could. We had to buy a bigger home in order to take them all in. My husband has the only income coming in for 9 in our household. We have gotten no child support at all. The kids are suppose to be returning to their parents by the end of December if dhs ruling happens. Is there anything we can do to ensure we are able to claim them for at least the length we have had them? We have depleted everything raising them. H&R Block does our taxes every year...They were being investigated by the irs the last couple of years.

Regardless of who claims them on there eic, you can only claim 2 for eic purposes. DHS can give you a letter that you will file with your taxes, that proves the children have been in your custody for at least 6 months of the year, you claim them as foster children. If there parents claim them also, they will be the ones getting audited.
