Becoming unemancipated

Hello My son was 18 and he lived with me . We had a huge fight and he left home. He tried to work and go to college. It did not work. His father talked him into becoming emancipated and sent him the papers. We went to court last year and the child support for him was taken away.
Now 14 months later at 19 he has returned home. He wants to go back to college full tiem and get unemancipated so that we can get his dad to help pay for college or recieve the child support again.. Is it possible to do this?
The case was heard in NJ .. Presently I am living in NY state.. thank-you we dont know where to start

In most states a child is automatically emancipated on their 18th birthday, in some states however they are not emancipated until age 19 or they graduate high school, whichever comes first. In order to take back legal control of your sons life you would have to have a court declare him unfit or uncapable of caring for his own basic needs due to physical or mental illness. However, you can apply to the court to have your ex pay "secondary" child support as long as your son remains a full time college student, most states allow this up to age 21 or 24 depending on the state.
