When target stores became successful, they changed all of the Dayton's to targets, but the corporation was still called Dayton Hudson Corporation until 2000 when they became Target Corporation and started developing "super targets".
They managed the remaining Dayton's Hudson's Marshall Field's and Mervyns to fuel the growth of target and then closed most of them once target reached its place as the 5th largest retailer behind Walmart, Home Depot, Kroger and Costco.
