Is there a train route from Geneva, Switzerland to Rome, Italy?

Geneva railway station is actually partly in France and partly in Switzerland. The normal quickest route trains take from Geneva does not pass through Switzerland at all, but goes through a small part of France and then into Italy after Modane and the route thereafter goes mostly along the Italian west coast.! Trains take about 4 hours from Geneva to arrival at Rome and typically call at La Spezia, Pisa, Livorno and Gressoto en-route.

But a more scenic route is to take the train through Switzerland from Geneva to Brig through Switzerland via Laussanne Martigny and Sion, and after crossing the frontier into Italy there is spectacular mountain and lake scenery to Aroma. That train carries on through Milan, Bologna and Firenze into Rome.

But if you really do want the most awesome spectacular scenery , take the train from geneva through France along the branch lines to St Gervaix. There change on to the Chamonix train, and take this line on into Switzerland where you need to change trains and down the mountain into Martigny, where you can join the service I mentioned above in Martigny. Believe me the journey from St Gervais to Martigny passes through some of the most awesomely spectacular scenery you can find on any railway setvice anywhere in the world. so it is well worth spending a bit more in train fares and taking the extra time and making sure you do it all in daylight to really enjoy that journey.
