Zero Smoke

I quit smoking almost 2 years ago, but my husband is having a hard time quiting. Has anyone heard of zero smoke? If so, does it really work? He won't take pills, the patch gives him a rash, the gum makes him sick and cold turkey makes him mean (I don't want to put the kids through that) - I'm running out of options and this sounds too good to be true. Here's the link. www.freezerosmoke.com

I haven't heard of it, but as a former smoker (those college party years) I honestly believe that the physical addiction has less to do with why it is hard to quit and it's like 90% of what we try to address with the gum and nicotine replacement. Why do the majority of weight staff smoke? Because it's a social habit. Who has the lowest success rate to quit? People who have at least 2 close friends or spouses that smoke.

Here's how I kicked the habit. I identified my favorite times that I liked to smoke. After I ate, when I went out drinking and between classes with friends. Nicotine is a stimulant and we get reinforced in these situations when - so you have to change your weakest times to be aversive as opposed to rewarding.

So after I ate, I made myself go outside in the cold, no coat, no chair, so I'm freezing and miserable.

When I went out with friends I didn't bring cigarettes with me and I made a deal that if I had one cigarette I had to go home. No more drinks, nothing, my night was over. I also told my friends (invite at least one non smoker) not to let me buy any or bum any.

Between classes I would walk out with a nonsmoker from class even if we went and stood with my smoking buddies and it made me feel weird to smoke in front of the nonsmoker.

Try doing that. If you combine a nicotine treatment and some cognitition (thinking) alterations like above, it'll happen. Be patient - I think it took me about 6 or 7 tries and I finally had to quit because the love of my life is asthmatic :)
