Can A felon hunt?

I know a person that has a felony on them and they were talking about going hunting. I always thought if you hand a felony record that you could not even have a gun in your possession

Black powder guns , can be bought and used by felons, and air rifles, also , they can hunt with this any time , just like any of us, they even have black powder shot guns,
