Can A felon hunt?

I know a person that has a felony on them and they were talking about going hunting. I always thought if you hand a felony record that you could not even have a gun in your possession

Yes he can have a black powder rifle , or a black powder pistol, or shotgun in his possession , to hunt , with, not a firearm , but black powder, guns,! a reg, rifle or pistol , or shotgun , he cant have, thats aginst the law
