You should either go to work either paid or as a volunteer for some non-profit so you can learn the ropes from the inside or you should get off your lazy ass and start reading. The first thing you should read is your state's rules and requirements for incorporating a non-profit organization in your state. Then you should read the IRS rules for non-profit organizations from a tax and law standpoint. After that, get going on your business plan. If you don't know what that is, forget this whole thing and just volunteer to help out at one of your local hospitals or old folks homes.
