1995 honda accord gets too hot

1995 honda accord gets too hot. If I am parked and running the engine to keep warm the temperature gets very hot in only about 10 minutes. I was backing out of a very small and closely packed parking lot a couple days ago. And it was taking awhile because of the manovering required and not only did the temperature go way up but collant started spewing out of the overflow container. I let the car cool down. Filled the radiator and over flow and it was fine. No problems since and no raised temperature. Almost all that driving is on the freeway. Place to place is very short trips.
Thermostat replaced 2 years ago. Water pump last year.
Does the thermostat have a setting? Maybe it was turned too high or too low? I only really started having this problem since it was replaced. And this incident a couple days ago was the worst yet.
Thank yo for your time, Karyn

I had a similar problem with my old Civic. There is a sensor switch that is supposed to activate the fan when the motor temp starts to rise. Turn your motor and watch to see if the fan(s) turn on when the temp starts to rise. If not your sensor switch probably went bad.
