If my husband gets very drunk and is abusive both emotionally and physically, what are my rights in a divorce?

My husband gets drunk several times a week to the point of blacking out often. When he comes home in the wee hours of the morning, he is abusive both emotionally, mentally, and physically. Although he's only bruised my arms, I don't have much proof of the damage he's done. My friends have witnessed him doing this to me in public. If I divorce him, how can I prevent him from gaining regular visitation or overnight visitation with my children?

He's also cheated on me several times. I know I should divorce him, but he threatens to get my kids half the time. That's not the environment I want them in. He denies he has a problem and he says no one will believe me in court.
