Is there a difference in overtime rates for a minimum wage auto mechanic with or without his own tools?

I've been told that as a mechanic in California that while I'm making minimum wage that if I have my own tools my overtime is Double as compared to using the shops provided tools, where my overtime would only be time and a half. This is a non-union shop (dealership) Can anyone clarify that please. thank you

There shouldn't be a difference. you have your tools, and they pay you x amount. you don't have your tools and they pay you z amount. overtime should be the standard 1 and a half times more.
