Can I get custody of my children?

I got divorced about a month ago. I have been trying to divorce my now ex wife or several months. When the time had finally come she decided to get an attorney at that time I did not have the funds to get legal assisance because I was laid off. The attorney she went through told me to come in and sign the documents and the divorce would be done, and me not knowing that these documents had stipulations of losing most of my rights to my children. These documents were not properly explained to me, I had no idea what I was signing, no one would explain it to me. I was put in a room with the papers and left to figure it out. Now I am being told by my ex wife that I cannot see my children at all. I know that I have rights, but I do not know what I can do. All I want is to be a part of my childrens lives.

You are at fault for signing the papers without reading them. You should of ask to take the papers and had an attorney look at them. However that does not mean what you signed is binding for long term. Are you sure you did not sign over your rights? Are you paying any child support, if you are not that could be because you did sign over your rights, other wise if you are paying child support then you probarly did not sign your rights away. You should have a copy of what you signed and if not you should be able to get it though the court. You would also have a divorce degree and if not then again you need to ask the court for information on if you were infact divorced though the court, the lawyer would of had to file for divorce though the court even if you did sign something. That would worry me because the only way she could get a divorce without your being served is because you signed consent to allow her to do so.
