Can dentist offices charge you for a missed appointment?

I "missed" my dentist appoinment Monday; however, I didn't really have an appt. I had cancled my last appoinment, due to work, via a voice message asking them to call me back to reschedule but stating that this day might work in the next month. I never received a call back. So, the day before this new appointment, I was left a message to come in only I didn't get the message until the day of, hence, I was a "no-show." I got a bill in the mail from them today for $52 for a missed appointment. I'm furious. Do I have to pay this fee?

There are some dentist that will charge you for a missed appointment. When you went in for the very first time they would of had you feel out forms and they have one that states that if you do not cancell your appointment within 24 hours you will be charged for that missed appointment. Usally thay won't the first time, however I would ask the office if you can see the form stating that, also I would explain to them what happened and ask that they wavier that bill. They have so many people come and go and don't always research their messages. Most offices will honor your wishes. I had a mouth full of x-rays and they told me at the time they took them that if they had to they would not charge me,but they billed my insurance and my insurance allows x-rays once every three years. So they billed me 120.00 and I called then and they took it off and apolized. Hopefully you will have the same honestly from you dentist.
