Elective Holidays

One of my men called sick on March 23. The men chose Good Friday as their elective Holiday. He was charged a day sick and Good Friday was charged as a personal day, which was his regular day off.

The management company said that Good Friday was an elective holiday which was going to be charged as a personal day to all staff.

Need to know the Union ruling on this.

So he was scheduled to work on Easter? Since the group collectively chose (by majority vote I assume) to have Good Friday off, then even those who didn't vote for it would still fall under the "elective holiday" guidelines. Typically, that should only apply to those who are normally scheduled to work on fridays. I can see if they charged him a sick day for the day he called in, but it is highly unusual for them to do both. If he had both days charged from his account then he should have been paid for both. depending on your Unions guidelines however, they may state that if you call in on a holiday, when it is your regular workday, they can penalize you a personal day. Check with your Union boss to see. Sorry so late. Susu
