My wife was driving our 2005 Nissan Altima through a parking lot and the engine stopped. After multiple attempts the car finally started again but the 'Service Engine Soon' light came on when this event happened. I called Nissan and they told me about a Factory Recall for just this problem, no cost to the owners to re-program the ECM (computer) to read the Crankcase Position Sensor correctly. I took my car to my local dealer for the recall fix. I was informed that they would HAVE to replace the Crankcase Position Sensor with a NEW one in order to clear the code BEFORE they would perform the factory reprogramming of the ECM. I asked them to just do the recall work but they said they couldn't reprogram the ECM until the code was cleared. I told them that the two were directly related and I shouldn't have to pay for it. So I'm out $193 bucks for a FREE factory recall. I called Nissan USA customer service and they refused to reimburse me. Stay away from Nissan of McKinney. What a SCAM for the dealership to make money from what was supposed to be a free factory fix. Get your Altima reprogrammed BEFORE the sensor makes the Service Engine Soon light comes on or you'll be out $.
