Yes! Get a lawyer. They will be your best bet to get the minimal charge. Also, before her court date if she checks herself into a rehab they will go MUCH easier on her. A lawyer will probably tell you to do that anyways. Either way, don't plead guilty, get her to check into a rehab asap, and you should get a lawyer. If you don't get a lawyer checking into rehab will help, and the people at rehab (doctors/nurses/counselors) will come to court and testify to the judge in her defence!

IF we retain a lawyer before going to court with a DUI citation could they negotiate the penalties?
My daughter is 19 and got a DUI confirmed with a blood test. I have two nephews who got citations . One for DUI and one for substance abuse. They both got lawyers and
had the their penalties reduced and the citations removed from their records. This was in NC. My daughter lives with me in CA. I do not know how flexiable the legal system is here. Could the lawyer direct my daughter to programs and classes for help and also direct her to address the judge with her sincerity to change.
