Why do some people ask for lemon with their glass of water?

Is there any beneifits to doing so? or is it merely just for taste?

Yep, there sure is, lemon juice has two primary functions, it helps your body more readily absorb the water, (great when your dehydrated) and, it is detoxifing to the liver and kidneys. And it as prime said, it tastes good and helps digestion.
