Yes you are right the system sucks. When your ex filed for custody did you get served and did you go to court? If you did not appear in court then that would explain why he would of got custody,sometimes when you have custody you don't think you have to appear. If this is not the case then something is really wrong. You need a lawyer in this case because the court has went as far as ordering mederator for you. However that is a good thing in away because that means that the door is still open for you to get the custody back. I would fight this and I know it is hard for you a well as being upset. Just refile for custody he did it so can you. Hopefully you will get a different judge that listens. Good luck

How do I regain custody of my children if it's only a temporary order?
I lost custody of my children last August. I believe the court has done something terribly wrong. I was a good mother. My ex-husband didn't like paying child support or alimony. I was a "stay at home mom" until my youngest went to kindergarten and I filled for divorce. My ex-husband first tried getting back some furniture (we went to court over it) then he tried having his support lowered and both failed. Then when I was late on my mortgage payment he tried taking the house. Yes I got a notice in the mail saying I had 30 days to vacate so he could take over the house. At that time in court, he never mentioned getting custody. He only wanted the house. The judge awarded it to me. Since all that failed, he than took me to court to get custody. He won temporary custoday. He has had them now since last August. I still don't know why. I've never abused my children, don't do drugs, and I'm a good mother. I've always been invovled in their life while he never did anything. I went to school functions, was on PTA, and went to all their sporting events. He never did any of this. I know something is wrong with the Kansas City Kansas court system. We have a medeator and it's all a nightmare. My kids want to come home and don't like liveing with their dad. I'm told by the medeator that my I can't call my kids. They can only call me between 8-8:30. I can't call after school or any other time. when I do my ex hid
