If the printer is using what is called a 'parallel' or Centronix interface (cable) then you can simply plug in the printer and turn on the comptuer. With Vista (and Windows XP) the computer should detect a new device and find the driver for it. If it does not find a driver for it, you can google the printer type and model and look for a driver. There is a place called 'drivers.com' that you can join for free and find the driver also. If you have to resort to this, when you are installing the printer, you must point to where you copied the driver to. I generally put the driver on my desktop, double click on it and have it installed to a folder that it will select itself. Then, simply point to this folder when installing the driver.

good luck
