Subcontractors 1099

I built my house and the subcontractor I used is asking for a 1099 from me not sure what a 1099 is , and do I need paper work for him showing me what he is claiming.

A 1099 is a tax form that shows him how much he was paid by you to build your house. it depends on how he has his biz set up, either you are the client and he is working for you, in which case he doesn't need a 1099, or else you are hire him to work like he is your employee of sorts, in which case it is a 1099 case wher eyou have to report how much you paid him.

i'd tend to think it is the first case i mentioned
