Adult growth

When I was 16, and joining the army, I measured 5'3 1/2, this had to be accurate as I had to make 5'4" to qualify for my MOS. The army doctor ordered x-rays to see if I would possibly grow more, then he could qualify me, but it was found that my growth plates were closed. So how is it now that I am 37, I am suddenly 5'6"? I have had this confirmed with 5 differnt measurings at differnt times of day. I was tipped off when my husband of nearly 20 years who is 6'5" noted that he suddenly has to put his chin up to place it on top of my head as opposed to being able to put it there with it tipped down. He still measures a solid 6'5" (slightly taller in the morning) What could possibly cause this?
