True black is a total absence of color. However, black colors are primarly rendered with red/blue/yellow inks in printing, or you can also consider a shade of grey.

Black is not a color. It is the absence of color. Color is created by light refracted by or absorbed by pigments. Light contains (in common language) red yellow and blue. These are the primary colors. When 2 of the 3 primary colors are mixed, we get the secondary colors of orange, green, and violets.
When light hits a "red" square, what actually is happening is that the pigment on the square absorbs all the other colors except red. It bounces only the red light back to our eye.
A green square absorbs all the spectrum of the light except for the yellow and blue range. The yellow and blue part of the light spectrum is bounced back and we see green.
Black is a pigment, but not a color, because there is no black in the light spectrum.
A black square is almost like a black hole of the art world. It appears black because NO part of the light spectrum is released.
So, black is the absence of color because it's the absence of light. Try turning the light off in your closet. Black can be used to shade a color. "Black" pigment is never truly black. You can discover the true color of black by adding white paint. Then the "black" pigment will reveal itself to be either a dark blue, dark purple (red and blue) or a dark brown (all 3 primary colors).
