I honestly cannot speak for any other country, but I do know here in America, we see Hollywood as the place for movies in the world. Yes, some of us realize that Bollywood is growing in popularity and size and will, if it hasn't already, be larger and make more money than Hollywood. But, with that being said, Hollywood will always be the place.
So, women from Hollywood have that prestige around them. The get to be on the covers of magazines, in movies (obviously), TV talk shows, on billboards, and TV commercials. We don't see anything from India. When we see India, it has to do with the population, the living conditions, or customer service helplines. I know it's a bit ridiculous, but we don't see it as a place of beauty. In fact, I cannot name one movie from India, much less an actress. I'm sure many around the world can name at least one of each from Hollywood. The only thing most have seen that's "Bollywood" is Slumdog Millionaire, and I'm sure many will laugh at that perception.
So, in closing, I think that the lack of exposure on this end about India's actresses and the constant bombardment of Hollywood has made us blind to anything but Southern California beauty.
