How can I get better at art?

Ok here's the thing.... I'm HORRIBLE at art! I'v tried art classes but I just cant improve! I really want to be good at art but it turns out awful. I'v only got 2 art works in an art show before and that was when I was in 2 grade! Is there any art classes that will work? Or any drawing books?

Everyone has gifts and talents. You should explore other things. I want to be a rock star but I cannot sing or play instruments so I have to find something else.

I have had paintings displayed in galleries, sold paintings, and have never been trained. Once tried a course which seemed so inapplicable, if that's the word, to art, I dropped it in college. So here's what you need to do. Look at what you like to draw, or paint for that matter, and put every detail on the paper or canvas. Always use photos at first. Pay close attention to the eyes if it's a person or animal. Let all else fall into place. Get charcoal & charcoal paper first and keep erasing what you don't like until you get what you want. Do reality drawing/painting first, save anything abstract for when you have more understanding. Everyone in the beginning of a portrait or landscape, city ...whatever, reaches to point of total frustration, "I can't get it', & people who don't persist are not artists. When you get past that point you start 'running' with it and see it take shape, then you can start to 'play' with color (have done purple & kelly green water, army green skies, grey & white seascape), and once had my roommate sit for 3 hours. Your wanting this tells me you can do it.

Don't give up just yet. My sister said the same thing too. I am very good at art and she never was. I like to express myself, she doesn't really. But there are different things to do in art. My sister always tried to draw, and I suddenly realized that she's better at animation pictures and I'm at reality ones. Maybe the same for you. If drawing is not for you, why not painting? Clay pottery? Optical illusions? There are many different things in art that you can do, but maybe you haven't found it yet. Maybe you're no longer for the art anymore, but maybe you are. Just don't give up!

Ok. It's not really about the final product. It should be about the fun ... in the process. Hold the #2 pencil, a dusty charcoal, or a brush loaded with paint and swing it across the canvas; that should be the goal. Your actual action will develop your skill. It is all about the time you invest. It doesn't just happen. Swing a bigger brush. Cover lots of canvas. Miles of it! That's all for now.
