Is this Monet real?

I have what appears to be an old Monet..Yet not a painting as I can see brush strokes but you cannot feel them.It looks quite old and the framing seems old as well..Im sure its not worth anything but more and more over the years people have been telling us to get it checked out.As funds for our family are extreamly limited is there a wqay to do this at a very low cost/My husband was just diagnosed with cancer on June 25th and we have 8 children. If this really was worth something it could help our family out of a huge financial burden. Please let me know.Thanking you in advance.Leeann Lake

The best way to find out if it is a real painting or not would be to take it to an appraiser. The American Society of Appraisers' website (http://www.appraisers.org) can help you find an appraiser in your area. many (but not all) appraisers have certain hours during which you can bring an item for appraisal at little or no cost. If there is a Sotheby's office in your city you can also make an appointment for a no-cost auction estimate.
