Acting in addition to art interests you. Many actors have been artists too, examples, Kim Novak, Gene Hackman, Robert Redford; the list goes on. Unlike art (at least in my 'humble' opinion) acting is dependent on training, and you have to become the piece of art.Think college acting courses are really underrated. They're great...teach you writing, staging, directing in addition in acting. Performing arts are just that. You have to learn vocalization, grace, how to listen & take roles which are not type-cast. Watch old movie Picnic with William Holden & Roseland Russel, the scene in which she (the spinster) trys to convince Howard to marry her with the escalating tension/desperation in her voice at his reluctance to do so. That was in acting class for 18-20 year-old girls (who would have little or no understanding of feeling that way) to portray in couples with guys playing Howard in order to compare which couple did it best. Think character actors really have the best deal because they can work at their trade without worrying about losing their looks and have many roles to choose from. Did you happen to catch Jane Seymour on 'Dancing with the Stars', not so much for rhythm, but for grace, the result of ballet lessons, a rewarding thing to have for acting. Most actors have been coached or had lessons in speach, ballet or dance, and in many cases singing or voice. Try doing accents (English, French, Irish, Middle Eastern etc.). You'd be surprised how difficult that is. So if still interested do as above answer & together with taking classes, get into every community, college, or other production you can. It's just not something you can take lightly & be a success.

To get noticed all you have to do is put your add in the paper. While your waiting for an answer call acting agencies and see if they will accept you. And for trying out just be yourself and do your best. The best acting agencies to get noticed by are in California.

You don't get asked to try out. And you say you want to be noticed.
Do you want to act locally or the big time Hollywood?
Hollywood is hard work and competition. You google open casting calls and just start going to auditions. Stop by Samuel French bookstore and ask them for info on agents and photos. Buy books from them. Lots of scams in Hollywood.
Sign up for extra work, work on sets, read scripts. It is not as easy as it sounds. And you need a job that lets you off at a moments notice for auditions.
If you want to act locally contact your local community theatre group and join.

It depends where you live. The best place for this is L.A. You can start by doing extra work. If you're lucky and get a speaking part (even one line), you can join the Screen Actor's Guild. Then, if you are lucky, you can get an agent to help you find jobs.
Also, buy the Hollywood Reporter and go online and find out where there is open casting.

Don't fall for anyone who wants you to pay money and promises you a part in return. These are scams just like the modeling schools.

At some point, you will need an 8 X 10 headshot to give out when you go to a casting call and definitely if you get an agent.

You can do local theatre, but I don't think that will get you too much farther than that. If that's ok with you, then go for it.
