1999 BWM 328i Engine problem light

The check engine light stays on. I replaced the gas cap and then had a BMW mechanic reset the light. The light came on again. I was told it was a minor problem but difficult to find the cause.

I notice there is gas deposit on the gas cap gasket.

A hand held scan tool will be needed to retrieve the code that is set in the computer. This code will tell you where your problem is. Sometime the code is an easily diagnosed explained fault and other times the code may require going through a complicated diagnostic trouble tree to find the problem. If erasing the code is not the answer then you will need the aid of a good tune up shop.
