More info would be helpful. Make, model and year etc. Have you checked your trans fluid level? Could be the vacuum modulator, the kick down cable or if the check engine light is on the computer could be in "limp mode" which is a feature on most Chryslers that will not allow the trans to shift out of second gear to prevent damage to the drive train when a problem is sensed but still allows you to drive the vehicle to a repair shop or home.

Bad internal seals are usually the reason a transmission won't shift into gear.
