'93 Chevy Lumina running fine, engine light comes on and car stalls and when restarted sputters, shakes and black smoke comes out.
At first, it wouldn't happen until car was warmed up, usually about 9 to 10 miles into driving. Now it is happening whenever. No rhyme or reason. In the beginning, if you put it into neutral or park and kept pushing the gas, in under 5 minutes it would clear and then drive like nothing ever happened. First we tried pulling the spark plugs, cleaning them and re-gapping them. Did an oil change and replaced the oil filter. Put carb and choke cleaner and fuel injector cleaner in. Also replaced the water outlet gasket.Still doing it and we noticed that the radiator fan was not turning so we replaced the radiator fan motor and the radiator cap. When the car still didn't work, we took it to a GM mechanic, he put it on the diagnostic machine and said it needed an ERG valve. So it was replaced and the car still was doing the same thing. The mechanic ran the car and put it on the diagnostic machine again and replaced the MAP valve. We got the car back on a Friday afternoon and Friday night we did some local running that took about 2 1/2 hours with stops every 20 to 30 minutes. We didn't have any problems. The next morning we ran to Delaware which is about 25 minutes on back roads. We stopped for only 10 minutes and drove right back. The car ran perfect. On Monday I only got about 5 miles from home when the engine light came on, the car stalled and when I started it, the same thing happened all over again. Have any idea what is wrong with this car?
