If you are a qualified auto tech then &10.00 per hour seems kind of low to me. In the state of California the minimum wage is $8.00 per hour. Tipped workers and minors must also be paid $8.00 per hour under state law. Overtime (at time-and-one-half) is required after 8 hours per day, after 40 hours per week, or on the seventh consecutive workday. Employees are entitled to double pay after 12 hours per day, or after 8 hours on the seventh consecutive day of work. California law provides more benefits to workers than most states, including short-term disability payments, and six weeks of paid family leave. A 2007 law reformed the state’s workers’ comp program, reducing costs to employers and providing better care for injured workers.*

If your not satisfied ask for a raise if your worth more to them and making them money they will give you a raise if not look for someone that will pay you what your worth , remember timing is every thing when asking for a raise ,pick a time when its hard for them to turn you down , not in the middle of and argument , but when they need you bad and can't do with out you ,
the best time to find a job is when you already have one so shop around check out the options and weigh them out, in my opinion you can always do better

One thing that many people use to gauge what other's are making in their area is Salary.com. Use with caution though, because it's just an estimate, but it's a good starting point!
