Am I liable here?

My friends dad was at fault in a motor vehicle accident in Brooklyn, NY, with my car. I live in NH and my car is registered in NH. NH law does not require motor vehicle insurance. The other party involved is claiming injuries and I'm getting letters from their attorny. What should I do?
