Car will not start

I have a 350 small block engine in 84 volvo dl with MSD ignition. Everything running great for year. Forgot to unhook battery cable when away on vacation and returned to dead battery due to clock. Following boost car ran for a few days then dead battery. Replaced battery and car ran fine for two weeks then dead battery. Following boost ran fine for three days then dead . Boosted car driving for about 15 minutes then car suddenly stalls , car cranks over but will not start. Positive battery cable has crack. light to MSD ignition box not lit. What is most likely the problem and what should I try first?

Try a trade in. No, I wish I could help more.Sounds like a fuel (pump) problem.

It's not a fuel pump. Likely you have a dead alternator. When the alternator fails the car runs straight from the battery. It's a pretty sure thing when you recharge a battery then it dies the same day or a day later that it's the alternator. So you have a choice: A new alternator is generally between $80 and $200. You can have the dealer or mechanic do it for about $300 or you can do it yourself. Depends on how handy you are with a wrench.

I agree that the alternator - charging system has a problem. check the wiring to the alt. and check for voltage also. you say the car will crank now but will not run.... and m.s.d. box light will not light ? not good.... check for voltage at box red wire followed by voltage at + side of coil. hold test light on - side of coil and have an assistant crank engine over ... test light should flash if working properly. no flash could mean bad m.s.d. box and or pick-up coil inside of distributor. good luck .....

A bad alternator can actually drain a battery.
