89 capri l drive help

I have a 89 capri l drive the rubber exhaust on the outdrive is cracked and leaks do i need to replace it or will the boat be just fine seeing how it is just the exhaust?

Do you mean a Mercruiser I Drive? You should replace the exhaust bellows. This can cause several mechanical problems over time.

The exhaust bellow is not as critical as the u joint bellow but you should be looking at all of the bellows if one is starting to crack have a close look at the shift cable bellow also but to answer your question it is ok to run like that hope this helps

Absolutely replace it. Even tiny cracks can allow cold air to reach the hot valves after you turn it off. When hot valves meet cold air they can warp or crack. Replacing the boot is much less expensive than a valve job, trust me.
