C6 in place of a c4

I have a 1986 f150 with a 302 ci fuel inj. Engine. I have beefed up the motor and trying to fit a c6 in place of the c4. It is not pulling up tight at the bottom. About a 1/4" space. Is it the torque converter or something else. The top bolts are in fine , but i don't want to break the housing.. any help would be appreciated.

Transmission shop friend relates that the Fords can be problematic to install normally even without conversion. They have many quirks and are not an easy unit to install.

He advised that the alignment pins should move easily when the transmission is moved back and forth. If the pins move back and forth easily the bolts should be able to pull in the transmission. if the alignment pins do not rock easily then STOP! it will not go.

Another possibility mentioned could be a difference in pilot bushing or a burr somewhere holding it.

You have to turn the torque converter a little bit till you hear a click as you hold a little pressure on on the transmission and turning the transmission in a rolling motion , make sure the tranie bell houseing is even all around and going in straight it has a notch it has to click in to and it should go right up

fords have that tricky little click in notch lock

Take the transmission out of the truck and lift the end of the torque converter that goes into the end of the crank shaft and turn at the same time to line up pump gear.if it does go in further that is your problem.you might have another problem, the pump gear may have cracked when you tried to pull the bell housing to the block, that means a new pump.one more thing to check ,will the torque converter fit in the end of the crank?
