It only cost $10 for a lost title, I don't think he had title for it.
Send him a certified letter asking for the title or you r taking him to court, for the return of your money & new tranny, & he gets car back. Your business deal with him was a car & TITLE!!!
Try the scare tatic first, a certified letter is $5.23, a small claim court is at the least $43.00.
Also send copy of letter , just 1st class, so even if he does not sign for cert., he will still receive his copy. Keep copy of letter for yourself.
Go up to the courthouse and put a mechanics lean on the car all you should need is the vin#
