Charging batteries

I have a 1987 ez go 36 volt cart all new batteries last year. When I put it on charge the amp meter pegs in the black and after about 10 minutes the conector at the cart gets verry hot almost too hot to unplug. so I shut timer off. Would you please help Thank You Fred

One of the bateries might be short.The charging voltage being very high for the remaining lot,over heating of the terminal will be observed.
