Hi If you have an earlier Maxima that has a distributor you may have a bad ignition module. The Japanese call this part an igniter. This is a common problem that we see at our shop. The problem was so prevalant at one time that Nissan was replacing the modules/igniters free of charge. Other ignition components such as coil wire ignition coil or the distributor cap and rotor should be checked. A bad MAF (Mass Air Flow) sensor could also be a problem. Actually having a shop detect whether you are having ignition or fuel problems would be your best bet.
