Do I need to replace my coil pack on my 1998 Mercury Tracer?

I was told that my coil pack was going bad because my car keeps missing. I was wondering do I need to have my coil pack replaced or is it something else. My car also shakes when sitting still and I have no clue what is causing it and no one can tell me. Please Help!

Have you replaced the spark plugs and wires, they will some times act like this, spark plug wires break down over time from heat, and things ,and have to be replaced, try this 1st, and as far as shaking, it would be the fouling of the plugs that would cause it to idle, rough, when setting still, when a coil pack goes bad, its gone , all at once it will not start again, so i dont think thats it, and also have your oxygen sensor replaced.

If a mechanic told you to replace the coil pack he is probably right some cars have more than 1 coil pack some times when they are going bad they will spike the voltage and have been known to damage pistons and burn through new wireing and that particular one cost me burned out my plug wires and finaly failed on top of a bridge and not the down hill side either . get it checked it will cost less in the long run
