Does anyone know the name of fluid replacement for batteries that was used in the 1930's?

I was told that you can replace current batteries with a fluid from J.C. Whitney that was used in batteries in the 1930's? Thanks

Acid , was what they had back then , guess you can still get it, but i dont know , but just plian old battery acid,
