Grinding noise-car

While driving on highway turned on a/c. Immediately smelled smoke and heard loud grinding noise. Turned off a/c, but, still had noise and smell.

Sounds like the compressor locked up and is not turning, and is melting the belt, better have a new compressor put in, or see if they a/c man can fix it by adding oil, but dont think , when they lock up it can be fixed!
