Although I'm not familiar with the Mazda sometimes on the front of the tension pulley there is a square hole that can have a 3/8 ratchet inserted and used as a lever to force the spring enough to install the belt.

How do I replace a serpentine belt on a mazda mx6 mystere 1996?
Removing the old (broken) one was a cinch!... but I can't seem to find how to release the tensionner on this particular belt and it is making replaciing it a real pain!
