Usually not an easy job. What is your problem? whats the mileage? it would be helpful to know to help answer your question.

Gage goes to 0 and stays on 0, then the engine started pinging. 217000 miles

If you have that many miles on the engine I'm afraid a new oil pump isn't going to be the answer.
The main bearing are worn plus cam bearings etc. When bearings wear enough the oil pressure will drop and stop. The oil pumps all through the crankshaft up to the camshaft and lifters.Worn bearings allow the oil to flow out instead of flowing through. For example imagine a garden hose with water going through it with nice pressure coming out the nozzle end. Start poking holes along the hose and the pressure on the nozzle end decreases to a trickle. This is what is happening to your engine. Putting a new oil pump in old Betsy would be like installing a new heart in a 90 year old man. It won't work.
