I own a 99 saturn sl2 with the 1.9 dohc and automatic transmission lately i hear a loud humming at highway speeds warm-the faster i go the louder the sound-also it feels as if i'm losing power as i'm accelerating. If i decelerate it slowly disappears at about 35mph.It does it most but not all times in warmed up driving. The tires are new and i get no warning lights on the dash. ? thanks-devon

If there is no sound coming from the engine compartment when the car is stationary and the engine is raced up the most common problem with loud humming sounds tend to be bad wheelbearings or hub bearings. We tend to find more problems with the front bearings going bad as a rule. If your front hub bearing is bad then the knuckle assembly will have to be removed and a new roller bearing pressed in. Larger cars have hub bearing assemblies where the entire unit is replaced.
A road test by your favorite auto tech is recommended. Many auto shops will perform a road test at no charge.
