If an officer fails to appear in traffic court are speeding tickets charges dropped?

I heard that if you go to traffic court to fight a speeding ticket and the officer fails to appear then all charges are dropped. Is that true

In many instances, yes. But you have to enter a plea of not-guilty, which will cost you more if it turns out he DID show up to testify. Best way to do this is use a low cost lawyer that specializes in traffic ticket defense.

Forget the low cost atty. Go to court, if the cop is there ask the Assistant DA if he will accept a plea to a lesser charge. IF so then try to get the ticket changed to improper equipment and this will save you on insurance costs and Drivers points. The DA is usually more than glad to take this as they still get court costs and the fine is the same, usually.

You should love it as it save you hundreds of dollars in insurance costs.

Yes if the cop fails to show up then they will drop the charges but notice how the same cop has a court room full of offenders when you are there. The reason is he scheduled them for the same day as he knew he was going to be there. This isn't his first rodeo I assure you.

Good luck
