If i was backing up to adjust to get in a parking space and hit a car behind me who is at fault?

Was the car behind me way to close or am i fault for backing up to fast or not seeing the driver. There were no cars behind him so shouldn't he have had time to back up. My back up light were on, i hadn't even turned my car off plus i wasn't in my parking spot so who is at fault?

Im osrry to say , you are at fault when backing in to another car when backing out of a parking place , the other car had the rightaway , you can turn the claim in to your insurance company and let them decide but I feel certain that your at fault,
Being a licensed Auto insurance agent for 20 years I have come across this many time in the pass and have never seen a case where the person backing out wasn't at fault.
I make it a practice to back into parking spaces so i can pull out forward more safly, when your 1st pull in to a parking lot and search for a parking place your more aware of your surrounding and obstruction / danger , its no harder backing in to a parking place than backing , but alot more dangerous to back out than pull out forward
Each year in the united states there are more than 300,000 reported reversing / backing up accidents, in driveways, parking lots, and neighborhoods.
These accidents cause more than 400 deaths annually, many with young children, and cost drivers in exess of 1.3 Billion dollars in damages.
My 5 year old son was one of these so called accidents , he was ran over and killed while playing in his own driveway , by a neighbor backing in to turn around .

You are at fault. Vehicle backing up is always at fault.
