The law cannot get involved in any car repo. U can get your plates. The only way u could get arrested is if they repo the car & u steal it back. Otherwise they have to take u to court. It is a civil matter, not a crimminal matter.

This could be true if the repo service/ or the car company has filed in court already. The vehicle once ordered by the court to be surrendered, is not done and the order complied to then the judge may grant them a bench warrant for contempt, in addition to making the vehicle a stolen so that it is seized by lwa enforcement. Yes you can renew your tags and drive the vehicle but the attachment the repo speaks of is usally for you.
It is not likely that any such action will occur. You should be able to continue to renew your tags, keep automobile insurance, etc., without any involvement from the authorities. The only time you have to worry is if the car is impounded because of unpaid parking tickets, etc. If that happens, and there's a filing in the courts on the status of the car, then it will be released to the owner of record - which - would be the finance company.
I have not paid my car loan in 2 years. I am able to get insurance, registration renewal, etc. I've even been pulled over by the cops on at least 3 occasions. I've never had a problem with respect to the car.
On my credit report, it shows that the loan has been charged off along with a lot of other stuff. So, I don't see any reason to worry about it for now. I know I will have to surrender the car one day, but i'm trying to rebuild my finances after a long recovery from an accident that caused me all this financial grief to begin with.
As for the repo man, well, good luck to whoever that may be. They haven't found me yet, and they'd have to be rather clever to be able to do so. If and when the day comes, I'll tip my hat to the guy and will consider myself bested by a worthy opponent in this game of cat and mouse. My guess is, however, that the car is no longer actively being looked for. But the reality of it is that while i use it every day, they won't find it anyway.
