In reckless operation what are the fines or jail time?

My husband is being charged with reckless operation. We believe that the accident is due mainly to mechanical failure. The judge wouldn't let him plead to no contest, now it is set for trial. What are the possible fines or jail time involved?

Couple days in jail and 500 dollar fine , and then he may walk without the fine or time if he can prove the car was in mechanical failure., and maybe just a fine
